As your loved one ages in place, you may be concerned more about their health. You may want to look into hiring 24-hour home care services to help your loved one age in place, especially if your loved one is experiencing strokes.
After a senior has a stroke, they will need to take steps to prevent anything from happening again, and this includes focusing on what to eat. There may be certain foods a senior should avoid after a stroke and food they should be consuming. If they need help with cooking these foods, this is something that 24-hour home care providers can help your loved one with.
Here are some foods your loved one should consume more after a stroke:
Consume Chicken
Getting enough protein in a senior’s diet is going to be crucial whether or not they have had a stroke. If they have just experienced a stroke, encourage 24-hour home care providers to cook dishes with skinless chicken for your senior.
Reducing saturated fat is going to help your loved one recover after experiencing a stroke and help them feel better and bounce back. Avoid eating fried chicken or chicken with skin on it because that is what holds the most saturated fat.
Chicken should be skinless, baked, and eaten in the right portion size to help your loved one recover. Chicken is lower calorie and packed with protein that will help your seniors thrive regardless of their health condition. Chicken is usually better than steak for seniors and can be a lot easier to eat!
Create New Salads
Not all seniors love eating salads, but the best thing about eating a salad is that it can come in so many different ways. You can have fruit salads, salads with kale, chicken, and almonds, and anything in between. 24-hour home care providers can help make salads taste better and entice your senior loved one to eat them, and it will help them recover from a stroke faster.
Your senior loved one should be eating tons of fresh fruits and vegetables no matter what happens in their lives, and salad is one of the best ways to do that, even if it sounds unappealing for them to consume. Salads usually have tons of vegetables in them which makes them a good source of nutrients and minerals that a senior’s body is going to need to thrive and recover after a stroke.
Baked Fish for Seniors
A senior’s brain can be impacted during a stroke, and by eating fish afterward, they can protect the brain and help it recover. Most fish have minerals that are crucial for brain health, making it one of the best things a senior can eat after experiencing a stroke. Your loved one should be eating a healthy amount of fish no matter what their health level is because it will help them thrive while aging in place.
Keep in mind that seniors should never eat any raw fish because their bodies may not be able to fight off the bacteria. 24-hour home care should always ensure that a fish is fully cooked before your loved one consumes it.
